My little box of homebrew IX

Howdy, it’s been a while. Here’s some stuff.

Reform of Hit Points’ function

Firstly, damaging attacks are abolished. Instead, if a Bane attack exceeds the targets defense by 1 or more it deals damage to the target equal to the difference between the defense and the bane attack roll. If your attack roll is lower than your opponent’s defense you deal 3 damage instead of invoking the bane.

Secondly (this is optional), getting rid of banes is a minor action instead of a move action.

Thirdly, Max HP is abolished. Instead every time your total damage taken meets or exceeds a multiple of half your Max HP (rounded down) you gain a level of the Worn down bane (described below) which cannot be invoked in any other way.

Bane: Worn down

Duration: Until the damage that invoked this bane is healed.

Description

Over the course of the fight you’ve been knocked down, blinded, frightened, charmed, polymorphed or worse. This has hindered your ability to ignore pain, avoid deadly blows, and maintain a presence on the battlefield.

Special

This bane cannot be invoked like other banes. It must be invoked by dealing damage as described in the rules above.

Wealth

This alternate rule implements a currency called Wealth.

Exceptional Purchases

You can spend Wealth to make exceptional purchases at a recommended cost shown below. An exceptional purchase could be Weapons, Vehicles, Extraordinary Items or anything else that is narratively and mechanically relevant and interesting.

Wealth Level Cost of Exceptional Purchases
X 10^X Wealth
0 1 Wealth
1 10 Wealth
2 100 Wealth
3 1 000 Wealth
4 10 000 Wealth
5 100 000 Wealth
6 1 000 000 Wealth
7 10 000 000 Wealth
8 100 000 000 Wealth
9 1 000 000 000 Wealth

Earning Wealth

Player characters begin with 500 Wealth each unless the GM rules otherwise. Over the course of your adventures you will most likely be rewarded with Wealth and the GM has the final say on when and how much Wealth you gain.

Unremarkable Purchases

The amount of Wealth you have determines your Lifestyle level. Your lifestyle level determines what unremarkable purchases you can afford. Unremarkable purchases could be things like food, rent, taxes or anything else that is too irrelevant or boring to keep in the foreground. It is based much on common sense. “You have a Lifestyle level of 5 which is roughly equivalent to that of a lord of a realm. Could a lord of a realm afford this? In that case you can afford it too.”

Determining Wealth Score

If you have enough Wealth to make an exceptional Purchase of a certain Wealth Level your Wealth score is equal to that Wealth Level.
