I recently visited the Open Legend Discord and found people talking about Jojo.
So that inspired me to talk about some interesting tid bits of a Jojo campaign I ran a long time ago. I still remember it, and how can I not? I have the whole thing recorded and saved for review any time!
If you’re interested the entire campaign is actually being retold in light novel form in fanfiction.net and you can find the story here: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13544991/1/JOJO-MIRACLE-MILK
It’s still not done and I haven’t published a new chapter since like… May, but since I have time I think I’ll be able to post new chapters this month for it…
This feels like I’m advertising now…
So a long long time ago, we decided to stop playing tabletop role playing games. My memory is hazy, it was a long time ago and wasn’t really anything special. But now we’re back! I don’t know why we decided to come back but I’ve loved every second since. We decided to play Open Legend first and foremost since it was simple and rules light.
At the time the 2 of us we’re really infatuated with one thing: Jojo.
It was the only thing we could think of!
So for our first ever homebrew campaign, and first in a while, we decided it would be Jojo.
Whenever Jojo is talked about in any TTRPG people always ask about how you would make rules for Stands. But the problem with stands is their diversity. You can’t make 1 end all be all rules for Stands because they are simply too… Unrulable…!
But since this is our first game in a while, we didn’t bother with homebrew! It was just straight up Open Legends in it’s purest form. Besides with Open Legend, rules aren’t necessary. All you need is proper role playing and you feel it in the table!
I think I’ve shared a story of this campaign somewhere in the community a while back… But I can’t find it… It feels like deja vu…
Anyway this isn’t much of a campfire story as it is a Stand Eye Catch style thing. If you wanna read the light novel I linked then this may contain spoilers but I’ll try to be spoiler free by just sharing the main character’s (The Player Characters) Stands and the first few main villain stands.
The fun thing with creating the Enemy NPC’s was that their stands could break the rules as much as possible. When running a Jojo game, stick to what Hirohiko Araki does with his protagonists. Keep their abilities simple and weak so that the way they solve problems can be interesting and they can reasonably exist as a Level 1 character. The enemy NPC’s is where you get to have a lot of fun with Stands since you can just go nuts!
So Miracle Milk in a nutshell takes place in the main universe after Golden Wind, but before Stone Ocean.
It’s about the Filipino Spirit, and gives more backstory on the stand arrows. (By doing some retcons and AU shenanigans. Obviously.)
Miracle Milk is heavily inspired from my favorite band and still is, Mili. And so Miracle Milk has most Stands except for the main character ('cuz he’s a Persona style wild card)
be based off of the songs from Mili. Contrary to the name, songs from Mili and not just the Miracle Milk album are present in the story.
With that out of the way… Here are some Stands!
Player Characters:
[STAND USER: Joker J. Ogre - AKA Jojo]
[STAND NAME: Chronos]
Destructive Power - B
Speed - A
Precision - A
Persistence - D
Range - E
Development Potential - A
Artificial Humanoid, Close Ranged, Range Irrelevant type stand
Ability: Chronos, just like the greek god of the same name, has the ability of control over time itself. With such a powerful time manipulating ability, Joker starts off pretty weak, but as the Development Potential implies, he gets really powerful.
In the beginning he could only Stop Time for 1 second, sometimes only half a second, but his favorite ability is time manipulation, Made in Heaven style, he manipulates the flow of time by making time move slower for him but faster for everyone else. With devastating effect. During slowed time he rushes with his stand going “BAKA BAKA BAKA!!!”
Character Build: In chapter one in the website, there’s a character build called the Chronomancer. That’s basically Joker, but Level 3 instead of 1. His stands control over time is represented in his Movement, Creation, Entropy, and Prescience scores. Invoking Haste on himself to represend the slowing down time ability, and sometimes peering into the past and future with Precognition via Prescience to find the location of the next enemy stand user.
[STAND USER: Jomi Lijo - AKA Jojo] her name is the words Mili and Jojo combined, lol.
[STAND NAME: Ga1ahad and Scientific Witchery]
W1tch –
Destructive Power - B
Speed - D
Precision - B
Persistence - E
Range - B
Development Potential - A
Humanoid, Long Distance Utility, Sentient type stand
Lancel0t –
Destructive Power - B
Speed - D
Precision - C
Persistence - A
Range - E
Development Potential - B
Humanoid, Close Ranged Power, Sentient type, stand
Ability: Jomi possesses 2 stands in 1, and she can control and utilize both powers all at once. However her powers is that of 2 half baked stands rather than 1 complete stand. W1tch has D&D style conjuration magic, complete control over the offensive properties of Fire, healing and defensive properties of Ice, and the speedy support style properties of Lightning. Lancel0t on the other hand is a straightforward close ranged punchy boy, or rather, slashy boy, his abilities are simply super strength and super speed.
Character Build: Jomi is a hybrid bard type character. Able to fill in the role of a close ranged fighter, or a long distance healer according to the situation. She’s got Might, Energy, and Creation (via attribute substitution) as her primary attributes and has Battle and support oriented feats like Boon Focus (Heal) and Battle Trance.
[STAND USER: Zippa Zepelli]
[STAND NAME: Bathtub Mermaid AKA Hermit Purple]
Destructive Power - B
Speed - B
Precision - A
Persistence - C
Range - C
Development Potential - B
Humanoid, Close Ranged, Power type stand
Ability: One of the many stands you can awaken via Hamon, Bathtub Mermaid’s ability is cutting things apart with her left hand which is a scalpel and then stitching them together with her right hand however she wants which is a claw.
Character Build: Her Hamon training is shown via Attribute Substitution of Energy to Fortitude but her Stand ability is represented via the Alteration attribute.
Enemy Characters: (They’re very Bizarre!!!)
[STAND USER: Deadly Shark]
[STAND NAME: Meatball Submarine]
Destructive Power - E
Speed - N/A
Precision - A
Persistence - A
Range - C
Development Potential - E
Phenomenon, Psychological Assault type stand
Ability: This deadly shark becomes even deadlier with his illusion making stand, which turns him into a much deadlier Angler Fish, Meatball Submarine has the ability to create incredibly life like illusions, the illusions made sound real, look real, feel real, and even smell real! But since the user is a mere Shark, its full potential is never reached. Meatball Submarine disguises itself as a travelling Theme Park, themed after a Meatball Sub. Once it catches a satisfactory amount of humans inside the park, Deadly Shark simply takes its leave as the Theme Park is actually the shark’s very own belly and now they are eaten.
Character Build: Deadly Shark is a boss NPC. Meatball sub is represented not through the shark’s boss stats, but rather as an entire dungeon the party got to exlore, traps, monsters, and everything (all illusions of course). Deadly Shark itself was a standard boss NPC once they finally got to him.
[STAND USER: Tonya]
[STAND NAME: Unidentified Flavorful Object or UFO]
Destructive Power - E
Speed - C
Precision - C
Persistence - E
Range - C
Development Potential - A
Artificial Non Humanoid, Bound type stand
Ability: Taking on the form of the generic Flying Saucer style UFO (but tiny) with maple syrup on top. UFO can absorb objects by hovering on top of them and then absorbing them in the ray of light that it produces below it (like the typical alien abduction). After gathering those objects, UFO can produce very delicious food out of it after spending time synthesizing all the objects together.
Character Build: Tonya doesn’t have any character build of any type. In the game the entire encounter with her… Err… Him! Is entirely social, so sh- I mean HE never has any stats because it was never expected for him to enter combat with the party. He’s supposed to be a reference to DiU. A fake out type villain who turns out to be completely harmless.
Looking back I really want to play another campaign of Open Legend that’s just straightforward vanilla and no homebrew again…
