In my Ambassadors campaign, the heroes had landed on the corrupted continent and were moving inland on their recon mission along a dilapidated road. They knew there was a chance for trouble, but they didn’t notice it until too late when the shadow of the huge Lindworm wings crossed over them. Its claws outstretched and successful in their aim to grab one of the ambassadors, one of the other players manifested his shield (it’s created by his amulet, e.g. Trollhunters on Netflix) and pushed his ally out of danger, defending against the talons.
As the party ran for the treeline, only two remained in the road, the defender (trying to buy time) and the fighter. The Lindworm came down for a second attack and flared his wings wide with a gust, his claws outstretched, as he roared at them both (Demoralized bane, multi-targeting)!
The fighter, with the Courageous perk, shook off the effect and took his turn, roaring back at the dragon. This caused the defender to scream (note the difference). The fighter grabbed his tetsubo with both hands and swung hard. landing it square on the jaw, shattering the jaw and twisting its neck so hard it fell to the ground, dead (roll 49, Guard 19, HP 26).
