[feat] bane specialization

Hey OL community

EDIT: I misunderstood my player, he doesn’t want to make his bane better. He wants to make his aura’s better… All his auras.
Something like: I have advantage on banes role made through my aura. Or maybe increase the size of the aura by 5ft.
This seems to me quite strong, with the high versitility it will have. Any ideas?

*what I previsously posted:
One of my players asked about a feat to get better a inflicting a specific bane. (in this specific case he has a knockdown aura and wants to get better and his knockdown rolls).

So something exactly like attack specialization, but instead of getting advantage on damaging attacks, it would only grant advantage on bane attacks. Am I missing a feat somewhere? If not how would you price this feat? I feel like 1 point is to little, but that 2 points is a bit much for 1 advantage for a very specific situation… (though if it becomes a signature move, it may be come up often enough to cost the 2 feat points)

Hope you people have any input

There’s a feat “Bane Focus” for that

bane focus only actives a bane on an attack roll that beats defense by 5. so the original comment about a arua of knockdown will not be helped by that.

Nope

Choose a bane that you can invoke. When your roll on a damaging attack exceeds the target’s defense by 5 or more (as opposed to the usual 10), you can inflict this bane for free. Each attack is still only capable of inflicting a single bane. Furthermore, when making a bane attack to inflict your chosen bane, you gain advantage 2 on the bane attack roll.

And unless I’m mistaken, that includes bane attacks triggered by auras or barriers.

yeah, Aura was kept limited on purpose. Bane Focus would still apply to the Bane attack roll the aura is projecting I would say.

If they are wanting to be able to hit several people with something, I’d say go with Multi-Target Attack Specialist and Bane Focus.

Here’s always the better way to approach something, what is it your player is wanting to DO specifically. Then we can look at the feats, attributes, banes to achieve that feel.

Boon Focus is the only feat that would really improve Aura. You could maybe do Superior Concentration and allow them to have two Auras, but that would be a stretch. Seems to me like your player is just wanting you to come up with a homebrew rule to boost the power of his build, which always sets off red flags for me. There’s not really a way to do something like that without making so it only works for one character, which is poor GMing.

You should ask them what exactly they’re wanting to be able to achieve, which would help us get a better idea of how to go about it. If it’s just “I want to be more powerful” then you should probably just say no and remind them that there are limits in the system for a reason.

I think his motivation is mainly to just get better at the thing he does. Things like the “attack specialisation” and skill specialisation sort of do the same thing, all of them being very generic.

But I think I will just point him to superior concentration. with the argument that aura’s are the way they are for a reason. And that if he wants to become an… auramancer superior concentration and upping his casting stat is the way to go.

this is what we are asking about. What does he do?

EDIT: and not just mechanically what he wants, what is the flavor/fluff of what his character is doing.
