So, I’ve been thinking about extraordinary item pricing, and started wondering what a Wealth Level 1 extraordinary item might look like in a fantasy setting; in other words, what kind of magic item would be cheap enough for even a peasant to afford? This is what I came up with:
Aura Stone
Wealth Level: 1
Properties: Detection 1
These pebbles are commonly enchanted by novice wizards who need to make a quick silver piece, as the process is quick and requires only an ordinary stone and a bit of enchanting know-how. When rubbed in the presence of an aura, the Aura Stone will change color: yellow for holy, red for unholy, green for life, black for death, and purple for magic. These stones are commonly purchased by adventurers, priests, and the paranoid.
